-You expected JungleMan? He's not faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, or able to leap doghouses with a running start. He's JungleMan, strange visitor from another planet like we all are, with flowers and amenities par for mortal man. JungleMan, who can bend Steel-City paper clips in his bare hands.-And not disguised as a mild-mannered re-poster for a greedy metropolitan conglomerate, he still fights for truth, justice, and the Amelican Bay....

Here you'll find parodies, satire, lampoons, and just bits of often wry or dark humor.

Satire, by its very nature, is not simply to make us laugh or to poke fun and ridicule on something. It should make us laugh at ourselves, while opening our eyes to a deeper message. Like an editorial cartoon, it should make us think -which is rare in today's world.

Satirical works of JungleMan first began appearing in another now-defunct blog, "Topdogsroartoo," by the same author. The blog was discontinued for personal reasons, but the satires continued, on facebook and elsewhere. The major purpose of this blog is to archive the JungleMan satires as well as some favorites by others. Those of other authors will be given credit whenever the author is known. All JungleMan works are marked as such.

Parody: Fair Use or Copyright Infringement?

It has been a long-standing practice to poke fun at our cultural icons, symbols, public figures and celebrities. A parody exists when one imitates a serious piece of work, such as literature, music or artwork, for a humorous or satirical effect. Parody, as a method of criticism, has been a very popular means for authors, entertainers and advertisers to communicate a particular message or point of view to the public.

Copyright law prohibits the substantial use of a copyrighted work without permission of the copyright owner. But such permission is highly unlikely when the use is to create a parody. It is therefor necessary for the parodist to rely on the fair-use defense and the free speech principles incorporated in the First Amendment to forestall any liability for copyright infringement.

The Copyright Act in Section 107 enumerates four “fair use factors” that must be analyzed to determine whether a particular use of a copyrighted work, such as a parody, is fair use. These factors are the (1) purpose and character of the use, including whether the use is commercially motivated or instead is for nonprofit educational purposes; (2) nature of the copyrighted work; (3) amount and substantiality of the portion used in the newly created work in relation to the copyrighted work; and (4) effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

(1) Satires by JungleMan are NOT intended for commercial use, but to educate and inspire.

(2) All photos, artwork, and writings used in JungleMan satires comes from published or commercial works.

(3) Most JungleMan satires are a mish-mash of several works combined, and do not utilize an entire un-retouched graphic or photo or unedited text.

(4) JungleMan satircs -unless plagiarized- do not appear in competition with the original works in any way.

If you honestly believe a copyrighted work of yours has been wrongly portrayed in a JungleMan satire, and has brought real and measurable harm or libel to your name or business, and could prove it in court, please contact the author and something can always be worked out or the likeness altered.

If it just rubs you the wrong way, save us all some time and clean up your own backyard.
